Paige Miles – “Alright Now” by Free – Our first real look at Paige. She loves Michael Jackson. She’s wailing on “Living For the City” from Hollywood week.
Ashley Rodriguez - “Happy” by Leona Lewis – Chelsea girl! Ugh. I hate this crappy Ryan Tedder song. I hope her song choices improve.
Janell Wheeler – “What About Love” by Heart – Janell wanted to impress Simon in Hollywood, and she did. More karaoke.
Lilly Scott – “Fixin’ A Hole” by the Beatles – Lilly busks on the street for money. Very interesting song choice.
Katelyn Epperly – “Oh Darlin’” by the Beatles – Nice bluesy version of “Oh Darlin”, but it sounds a little cabaret to me.
Haeley Vaughn – “I Want to Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles – She got her nose pierced after she made Hollywood.
Lacey Brown – “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac – Ohhh I do like Lacey. Nice tone, interesting phrasing and I love this song.
Michelle Delamor – Fallin’ by Alicia Keys – Michelle is very self possessed. I’m not sure she’s bringing anything new to this tune, but she’s got a beautiful tone, she’s confident, good arrangement, she’s not missing a beat
Didi Benami – “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson – She recalls singing “Terrified” during Hollywood Week. She wants to stop being teary eyed.
Siobhan Magnus – “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak – She’s an apprentice to a glass blower. Smart to pick a song originally done by a man.
Crystal Bowersox – “Hand In My Pocket” by Alanis Morisette - Crystal has never watched the show and didn’t think it was for her.
Katie Stevens – “Feeling Good” by Michael Buble – Katie gets the big pimp spot! She’s hitting all the big notes and she’s very confident working the stage.

If ever there were a confusing episode to try to summarize, Group Day during Hollywood Week is it.  Ryan Seacrest called it “Hell Week”…for me too, Ryan. For me too.  I had to compare notes with Liz’s live blog, Cait’s recap, and Brian Mansfield’s entire blog just to make sure I had everything down right.  But if a stellar writer like Brian Mansfield can feel a bit jumbled, then hey.  I don’t feel so bad.

The 96 remaining hopefuls have split into groups, with a cache of popular songs to make their own using their vocal styling and creative dance moves.  A few opt for going a capella, while the others utilize the professional musicians hired by Idol.  As usual, tension mounts, and as sleep becomes optional, some contestants crack. One hopeful even decided to just pack it up and go home while her dignity was still intact (her words, not mine).  We see the usual tears and breakdowns, as well as a few power struggles among those who feel they are natural leaders (but are mostly just bossy and aren’t team players).  We see people, who have been practicing for hours and have to sing an abbreviated version of a song, forget their lines.  This latter truth has always baffled me.  I understand nerves getting the best of you, but at this stage in the game, being nervous should be a thing of the past. It’s much easier to hide in a group than it is to be put on the spot in front of a ton of people.  I guess I count myself lucky though, as I can remember an entire song generally the first time I hear it.
The first group was called Fate and looked like a picture-perfect version of a cookie cutter girl group.  Three attractive girls: a blonde, a Hispanic, and an African-American girl.  Their version of “Irreplaceable” by Beyonce was average to me, but in all fairness, the song isn’t so great and The Spice Girls never could sing that well, either.  Michelle Delamore, Charity Vance, and Ashley Rodriguez all make it through to the next round.

"We Are the World - 25 for Haiti" will premiere in 3D on NBC prior to the opening ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Spearheaded by Quincy Jones, producer, and Lionel Richie, co-writer, of the 1985 philanthropic anthem "We Are The World," "WOTW-25" was recorded on Feb. 1 in the same L.A. studio as the original 25 years earlier (Henson Recording Studios, formerly A&M Recording Studios). Jones and Richie served as executive producers and producers, in collaboration with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; and co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin.
